Are you living in the valley of despair or fear? Are you going through pain, troubles or heartaches that would describe your valley as the valley of the shadow of death? (Psalm 23:4)
Christians Living in the Valley
We’re all human and as such, we all experience bad times. How we handle them can make or break us emotionally. And, as Christians, if we find ourselves living in the valley of fear or despair, we have Jesus to rely on to help us get through any valley we end up in.
Lifting your voice in prayerful song and worshiping Jesus is one of the best ways to rely on Him for strength and hope.
Living in the Valley of Despair
Many things can drive us into living in the valley of hopelessness and despair. The loss of a job, the inability to find a new job, or having a job that you hate and can’t seem to get out of.
Your car keeps breaking down and you can’t afford a new one or even the repairs on your old car.
You’re not making enough money to make ends meet and you don’t know where to turn. Or, maybe you’re being evicted from your apartment or your house is in foreclosure.
The loss of a loved one, whether human or your four-legged best friend, can send some people spiraling into a valley of despair. That loss can be from a death, divorce, someone close to you moved far away or you had a fight with your best friend and you’re no longer speaking.
Maybe you and your children are having trouble. When your adult children get into adverse situations, it can weigh heavy on your heart and mind.
Living in the Valley of Fear
Life throws us curves – lots of curves. Some of them are unexpected; others are from our own doing. But living in the valley of fear of the unknown or what’s coming next can seem dreadful at times.
You could be driving somewhere unknown and you get lost and afraid. You could be home alone at night and hear someone breaking into your house. Possibly, you’re facing a court hearing and the outcome is unknown.
Maybe you made a bad choice and you’re fearful that someone may find out and spill the beans. If so, you may be afraid of the outcome of that choice.
Children, whether small or grown, can get into situations that cause you to fear for them.
I’ve actually experienced all of the above and looking back, even though I was far off the path God wanted for me, He was still watching over me. Knowing and believing in Him literally helped me stay sane.
As we often hear: Don’t Give Up – Give It To God.
Reaching the Valley of Peace and Hope
Any number of things may happen in your life that make you fearful or throw you into despair. But if you read, memorize and pray Psalm 23:4, God will deliver you into a valley of peace of hope.
